Weekend excursions @ 3:02 PM

As our days in Utah wind down, we've found that we have a lot to do and a little to do all at the same time. And I do believe that Winnie the Pooh said it best when he said, "let's begin by taking a smallish nap, or two." I think the hubbs may have taken that one to heart.
You see, I didn't get much sleep this week and when I came home to rest after work he suggested that we take a nap, because looking for boxes and making sure our electric and gas gets cut off when we leave really zaps up all your energy. Believe me, I'm still struggling with that one too. However, we did manage to get quite a bit done this weekend, after Garrison's naps, of course.
Hubby treated me to a spa afternoon. I had a lovely facial and massage. I also wore slippers that were 14 sizes too large. I have found my new favorite way to relax and I think that this new discovery will also be my source of stress relief. Hello frequent spa days!!!

It goes without saying that our absolute favorite type of food is Mexican. Lucky for us we're doing to Arizona where we will have an endless supply at our beckon call. BUT we won't have Red Iguana and part of me hurts when I recall that small/tiny detail in our moving arrangements. It's a huge nod to Red Iguana, however, to have someone fearing their departure from Utah because there's not a Red Iguana in Arizona but thousands of other places (most of which don't hold a candle to RI). So, I ate chips and salsa to my hearts content. My stomach was content after one basket but my heart was still aching for more after the third. The stomach won out. Whimp.
As with every trip we've taken to Salt Lake this year, we went to the temple to walk the grounds one last time as "residents" of Utah and to take in the beauty that we've had the blessing of being surrounded by during our time here in Utah. It was lovely to walk around Temple Square with my husband, when we first walked around as a newly dating couple and then a newly engaged couple and now as seasoned "newly" weds. There's so much love in my memories of Salt Lake and of Temple Square and luckily our last trip there didn't disappoint. We happened to stumble upon a terrific concert of young violinists playing in the old tabernacle. It was so beautiful. We got to hear great versions of church songs and classics. I just loved soaking up the atmosphere of the spirit felt there. I didn't get to take a snapshot of the whole group because there were ushers behind me most of the night, but I did get to snap a quick photo of one of the groups of older kids playing a beautiful upbeat song. The name has escaped me. I think Garrison's favorite part was a little boy, not pictured, that swayed as he played and was easily 3-4 years younger than the others and about 2 feet shorter also. He was brilliant!
Our last stop was a quick pit stop that I've been hoping to make for over six months now. It's called Bruges Waffles and Frites and one evening when the hubby and I were walking around SLC we walked right past it and thought it looked really yummy but we were too stuffed from our dessert at another place that we promised we'd make it back some time. Then we went up to SLC four or five other times and failed to go. Until, on our last trip up there I had Garrison get off the road headed for I-15 South and drive in a loop (or square) one entire block, to drop me off for a dessert at Bruges. He did and then moved our car so we'd have ample time to enjoy the deliciousness that was this "torpedo" waffle with homemade cream and fresh strawberries. I so enjoyed it and the hubby did as well.

Utah has been good to us and it's been a long road learning to be good back to Utah, but I think we've finally arrived at a happy medium, just as we're about to leave. I have mixed emotions about leaving the place I've called home for two years, but I have many happy memories, enough to last a lifetime, and I think that's all you can ask of the place you've spent creating a family with someone else. Thanks Utah!
