straight @ 9:08 PM
Last night was a crazy night. After sleeping in and studying some more, I made a great italian dinner that the hubby came up with and then cozied up with him to watch the Rum Diary before taking a little evening shower, because I wanted to and because I realized I hadn't done a conditioner treatment on my hair yet and it really needed it. No one ever told me that growing out my hair would require such a re-training of habits and a re-learning of how to properly take care of myself. I'm not sure I'm cut out for long-ish hair. But I'm in it for now---mostly because it's new to me still and I'm excited about the prospect of what it could look like later on (if I don't break down and cut it). So, without that digression, I took a shower late at night and instead of making sure my hair didn't frizz and kink out, I decided to just put some "straight" gel in it with some "quenching complex" from Bumble and Bumble. That stuff has saved my hair from the dry Utah air! Then I went to bed.
When I woke up this morning, by my alarm and NOT the garbage truck: THANK YOU EARPLUGS!!! I got ready really quickly and realized that my hair still looked really good. So I jumped in the shower and took extra care to not get my hair wet, though the humidity had some effect on the manageability of my hair, it still looked just as good when I got out. Then I straightened it with my iron and went to work. I didn't even think about what the kids would say when I showed up with straight hair rather than my usual curly locks..I guess I forgot that my kids are really aware of any changes..whoops.
The rest of my day went a little something like: "Mrs. Burton, what happened to your hair?" "I thought you only had curly hair--did you buy new hair?" "You don't look like my teacher" "Wow, you're so pretty" and then my favorite, "So, where did you put your curly hair when you wore this hair today?" I mean, naturally I would put the curly hair in a cool, dry place that didn't exceed 70 degrees and wasn't in direct sunlight, but how do you tell your students that? I guess I'll have to warn them the next time their teacher is going to show up with different hair.
The most recent photo I have from the last time I straightened my hair...from last summer. Perhaps I need to take some more photos and/or straighten my hair more often.
