'arry potter. @ 6:54 PM
I just love me some HP. Honestly, I didn't know just how much I loved it until I received the British blu-ray series for my birthday. Best. Husband. Ever. I may confess to having watched the whole series at least three times since my birthday. But I was sick for an entire week. Too sick for school work. But not too sick to have mental activity. I'm fairly certain it was HP that cured me of pneumonia and bronchial spasms. My doctor believes it's the antibiotics. Tomato. Tomato. Meh.
23rd birthday. best EVER!
No matter which way you turn it, Harry Potter is awesome. And I'm totally unbiased in that I only grew up reading the books since 5th grade when they came out in Britain and I didn't trade my book at the Christmas party because the book had a sticker that said "British hit!" I've always been the oldest child. There are some things you just DON'T share. An awesome book at a public school Christmas exchange is one of those. Luckily, my teachers were nicer than I was and gave me the benefit of the doubt when I said I had already traded my book twice (what kind of lame game is that anyway?!) I read the whole book over night and I was hooked on the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Only problem, the second book wasn't even due out until February in the U.S. I hated the United States that Christmas. Pathetic.
But, I got it for Valentines day. My mom is so awesome! I finished that one and had to learn patience for the next nine years as I anxiously awaited every book after the next. Then I bawled like a baby when I finished the 7th book, three times. I love the series. I literally grew up with the characters. I feel connected to the demise of Voldemort and I know it sounds silly but it's how I feel.
after watching part 2 and bawling in the theatre
Today I got to watch the first part of the Deathly Hallows with my friend and her son. It was like being spoiled after a long week. There's so much to enjoy about the movies, though I along with others would find myself saying, "the book is so much better" at times. I have to remind myself that film is a completely different medium than a book. The book allows you to develop a relationship with the characters that is completely unique to your interpretation of the character, in it's relationship to you. While the film version is the adaptation of emotion and action that captures the essence of the work overall. Comparing the two just isn't fair to either medium. Both have the unique capacity of creating a world from the mind of the author, one, however, is up to our imaginations, the other is up to the limits of human limitations. I find both of these to be beautiful and when I remind myself that I'm comparing two completely different mediums I am immediately able to appreciate the medium I am enjoying.
I loved watching the first part of the Deathly Hallows this afternoon and perhaps I watched the second part after she left and ended with the first movie...nothing like a cliffhanger to keep you coming back for more! Hopefully when the hubby gets home he's ready for a marathon because I feel it itching in my veins. (plus, I need the action scenes to cover up sister-girls terrible selection of music that's literally BLARING next door--have I mentioned I can't wait to not live in an apartment anymore?!)
Happy weekend!
