Day Four and Five @ 3:31 PM
Yesterday was a day of shopping, relaxing, and babysitting--so there were no pictures from our escapades, however, we did score some great deals in the form of: sunglasses, shirts, jewelry and shoes.
Today we had a lot to do in Honolulu--so today is going to be divided into two posts. First up:
Pearl Harbor Memorial
Sar and I got to PH early enough to get tickets to go to the USS Arizona Memorial (which I have been wanting to see for a long time--plus I didn't get to do that last time I was in Hawaii) at a decent time so we could get some other stuff done and not waste our time waiting for the boat to go to the Arizona. Sar used my surgery as an excuse to get us bumped up to the front of the line for the earlier show, after we toured the BowFin.
Going through the BowFin was a lot of fun. It was super tiny inside and it felt so crammed but things were organized so well that it didn't look bad, just overwhelmingly uncomfortable for men.
The passageways and the beds were so tiny and close together--even for me at a stunning 5'4! I couldn't believe that grown men were living in these submarines for months on end--I wanted out after 20mins!

The hauntingly quiet memorial area
I really enjoyed visiting Pearl Harbor again and taking Sarah to experience it, I truly believe that it is something that should be done because it's sobering to vacation in beautiful Hawaii and then experience a very minute amount of the pain that was felt in Pearl Harbor before the US entered WWII. Makes my heart hurt to think that we could be hurting other countries and people by trying to help them. Aloha.
